Roatan, Honduras

Roatan was a cruise stop: about five hours to see as much of the island as I could before getting back on the ship. Most of that time went to West Bay, at the island's western tip, with its beach, waterfront docks, and wooden houses on stilts. The rest went to the road there and back, past roadside shops and bars.

What's in the gallery

Most of it is West Bay: a lifeguard chair over calm turquoise water, a vendor selling bright dresses under a palm tree, a breakfast sign on a waterfront dock, wooden houses on stilts among the trees, and a boat pulling into a harbor lined with dock houses. The rest is from elsewhere on the island: a woman dancing in a red and blue traditional dress, a man riding a motorcycle along the coast, a roadside souvenir shop, and a yellow-and-green bar and grill.
