Haitian Countryside
Between 2009 and 2014 I made five trips to southwestern Haiti. Most of these photos are from Maniche, an inland village I got to know over those visits, and the rest come from the small villages around it. The coastal shots are from Port-Salut.
What's in the gallery
Daily life on the roads and footpaths: kids pushing a wheelbarrow of sugarcane past a yellow church, women carrying baskets and bananas on their heads, families leading loaded donkeys, men walking goats and cows. Home life in outdoor kitchens and around cooking fires, a girl in a doorway framed by plants, tin-roofed houses with a cow grazing out front. Farmers in green rice fields, school children in blue uniforms on a cobblestone road, people crossing a river with their donkeys. And the coast at Port-Salut: fishing boats on the shore at sunset and a purple sky over the rocks.
In 2014 I went back with HANA nurses on a medical mission. Those photos are in Haiti Medical Mission.
