Miami

South Beach has its own gallery. This one is the rest of the city: Downtown, Brickell, Wynwood, Little Havana and the waterfront around them. Miami moves fast and changes faster, and most of these were made on foot, trying to keep up. Cyclists and scooters blur past, a sudden rainstorm empties the sidewalks, and towers go up where there was open sky a few years ago. The Girl with a Pearl Earring mural looks down over Downtown from the side of a building.

Then there’s the Miami that doesn’t make the postcards: food trucks selling arepas and tacos under lemonade umbrellas, the Wynwood tour carts rolling past the murals, a neon motel sign in Little Havana, two men talking outside a perfume shop. And from the water, the skyline across Biscayne Bay, from the causeways at midday to the cruise terminals lit up at night. For the city before it changes, see Exploring Miami.
