Aftermath of Hurricane Irma
I was recently reviewing my photo archives and I came across photos that I shot almost nine years documenting the damage in Coconut Grove and Brickell after being hit by Hurricane Irma
Hurrican Irma was an extremely powerful and devastating storm that caused extensive damage and multiple deaths across the Antilles and the eastern United States in September 2017. At the time, Irma was considered the most powerful hurricane on record in the open Atlantic region, outside of the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico, until it was surpassed by Hurricane Dorian two years later. It was also the third-strongest Atlantic hurricane at landfall ever recorded.
Irma caused widespread and catastrophic damage throughout its long lifetime, particularly in the Florida Keys. On Sept. 10, 2017 it hit Miami with winds, rain and flooding. The storm flooded downtown Miami, knocked out power and destroyed boats docked in Coconut Grove.
