Copenhagen, Denmark
Two days in Copenhagen in 2016, walking the canals from early morning until the long Scandinavian summer evening. The city is flat, built around water and runs on bicycles. It’s easy to cover a lot on foot, from the harbor at Nyhavn to the palace squares and the green ramparts at the edge of the old city.
What’s in the gallery
Nyhavn’s colored houses and wooden ships, once at sunset and again in the morning. Canal tour boats under old stone bridges, and the Old Stock Exchange with its twisted dragon-tail spire, photographed eight years before fire brought it down in 2024. A Royal Life Guard on duty at Amalienborg and the dome of the Marble Church. The windmill and St. Alban’s Church at Kastellet, quiet lakes, rows of parked bikes, and graffiti artists at work.
More of Europe in Paris and Halmstad, and more cities in the Travel galleries.
