Port-au-Prince, Haiti
These were shot between 2012 and 2014, in markets and on streets across Port-au-Prince. Most of the city's commerce happens outdoors, so that's where I spent my time: under the vendors' umbrellas, along crowded market streets, and next to tap taps being loaded for the trip out of town.
What's in the gallery
Markets first: clothing stalls along a fence, women selling charcoal and garlic under Digicel umbrellas, fruit vendors in a crush of colored umbrellas and motorcycles. Then the work of moving goods: sacks loaded onto trucks, painted tap taps and a Daihatsu piled high, men hauling sugarcane, scrap metal and pipes by cart and wheelbarrow. And the street fronts they pass: a hair salon, a hardware store, a photocopy shop under a Mickey Mouse mural.
